김한(화가)
어쩌다 내게 무료한 시간이 있어서 그의 집에 가보면 그는 항상 무언가를 만지고 있다. 그는 경상도 사람답게 과묵하고 우직스럽고 비타협적이며 또한 고집불통이다. 이러한 기질이 그를 항상 무얼 하지 않고는 못배기게 하고 또한 무언가를 해야만 하게 하는가 보다. 그의 작업하는 모습을 옆에서 지켜 보느라면 흡사 시지프스를 대하는 착각에 젖는다. 그가 파이프에 불을 붙이고 바위같이 앉아서 뻐끔뻐끔 연기를 내 뿜고 있을 땐, 저게 도시 무슨 생각을 하고 있나 도무지 감이 잡히질 않는다.
그는 말이 없고 느림보며 어떻게 보면 미욱하기 이를 데 없다. 허나 그의 그 끄떡도 않는 부동의 자세에서 그의 모든 것이 있는 것이고 말 없는 행동에서 신뢰감과 함께 묘한 매력을 풍기게 하는 것이다.
Sungboo Lee (poet)
I visit his place to beguile tedious hours, and he is always there handling, touching and managing something. His manners are of typical Kyungsang province origin: never so soft in compromising, naive and honest. Such characteristics perhaps never allow lax life style. I look at him and get reminded of Sisyphus. Seated on a chair like a weighty stone, puffing out pipes, he made me wonder “just what is this man thinking?”
He at first glance may seem thickheaded, but this was when I started getting the sense of his weird attractiveness as a person, perhaps even dependability.

I was especially close to him among other colleagues and fellow artists. Sungsan dong was where he lived close to my place along with Sungboo Lee the poet. Early morning football was our favorite yet routinely activity. The ages of 40s they say are the ages free from vacillation, just as he and I are. His effort to make it right in art world must not be wasted.
